Neither Red nor Blue: I'm Purple!
In my mind, the recent political emphasis on "Red States" and "Blue States" flies in the face of our being the "United" States. As I pondered this divisive tactic creating "dichotimous" thinking, I began to realize how we, the American public, loses. We lose our unity for we have replaced unity for uniformity. A true democracy does not function by squelching dialogue, debate, or differences of opinion. The "us" versus "them" destroys rather than builds. A house divided against itself cannot stand. The dividing of America is neither healthy, nor useful, in helping our nation to prosper, educate, compete, or survive. It occurred to me that I am neither Red nor Blue, I'm Purple! Then, I reasoned that purple is a blend of the best of both red and blue. Maybe what we need is a Purple Party?
We may not all share the same opinions, but we share the same problems.
